The Hill Raceway is closed
for the 2007 season!
The Hill Runs Season Championship Card
(Rew, PA) The Hill Raceway ended it's season, capping a 2 year tenure of
promoter Doyle Harris, with championship races and an awards ceremony
afterwards.
Championship events were run in all classes as the historic, paperclip shaped
oval ended it's 49th year of competition. In most cases, the series champs were
crowned by the slimmest of margins. One of the best examples of the tight point
races were the H2O Water Trucking Thunder Stox. In one of the most emotional
moments of the season, Olean's Tim Buchanan pulled off a win over Jesse Tarr.
Buchannan, a perennial (3 time) bridesmaid in the standings with no feature
wins, charged to his first career feature win. Tarr was second, Dave Schoonover
third and Doyle Harris,Jr., fourth. Schoonover was the season's champion, with
Tarr a scant 2 points behind. Harris checked in at third in the final standings.
S.L Welding Pure Stock action saw Hinsdale,NY's Barry Muschawek take a season
high 9th win enroute to his first ever class Championship. Muschawek bested
Brandon Brown in his best showing of the season, followed by points runner up
Pat Yohe, AMR standout Josh Kieth and Paul Bidwell.
Steve Mowerey carried a slim points lead into championship night in the Marty's
Auto Mini Stock division, needing to finish ahead of sophomore standout Kevin
Dzuroff to take top honors. Mowerey won the feature, clinching the title by a
mere 6 points over the charging Dzuroff. With the win, Mowerey has now won a
championship at every track he has competed at. Closing out the top 5 were Herm
Burroughs, Kurt Goodell, and Brad Ullman.
Eldred's Damian Bidwell entered the night with an unsumountable lead, and was
crowned Eldred Paint and Body Charger points champ, despite a mid race tangle
with Portville,NY's Josh Torrence. Bidwell started on the pole with Bradford's
Dale Miller on the outside. At the drop of the green, Miller and Torrence darted
to the lead, forcing Bidwell to battle for second with Torrence, leading to the
tangle that sent both to the rear of the field. Brandon Buchanan held off Blane
Krott in a hard fought 2-3 finish. It was Krott's best finish of the year, and
launched him into fourth place in the final standings. Joe Muschawek and Bidwell
rounded out the top quintuple. Final standings were Bidwell, Miller, Buchanan,
Krott and Torrence.
In a winner take all situation, the Allen's Wine and Liquor/VicVena Pharmacy
street stock division came down to the final moments of the final lap, as Jeff
Hellwig and Dennis Harrison carried on a 19 lap, side by side battle for all the
marbles. On the 19th lap, a chingo with Harrison, and Salamanca, NY's Rich
Wojtowics allowed Ken Shelley to slip into second, with Wojtowics recovering to
finish third. Jeremy Perry and Ed Coast filled in the top five. Hellwig copped
season honors with Harrison as runner up, and last year's champ Jason Dobson
landing solidly in third.
Promoter Doyle Harris added that he, and the staff would like to thank the
staff, fans, and racers for the many memories, and support that they've given
him over the last two seasons.
